This is the original 7 feet long banner that hung at the Colorado Avalanche 2003 retirement press conference of Patrick Roy at the Pepsi Center. The thick banner is signed by Patrick Roy using a silver paint pen. Photo-matched many times to the May 28, 2003 press conference. 

Roy announced his retirement from playing in 2003. At the time, he held the NHL record for most wins by a goaltender (551), a record that has since been surpassed by Martin Brodeur. Roy's jersey, number 33, was retired by the Avalanche on October 28, 2003, and he was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 2006.

HISTORY:

Patrick Roy joined the Colorado Avalanche in 1995 after a landmark trade from the Montreal Canadiens, quickly establishing himself as a pivotal player for the team. During his time with Colorado, he led the Avalanche to two Stanley Cup victories in 1996 and 2001, earning the Conn Smythe Trophy as playoff MVP in the latter year. Roy's exceptional goaltending and leadership were instrumental in solidifying the Avalanche's status as an NHL powerhouse until his retirement in 2003.
