STORY:
The Niklas Bäckström Game Worn Goalie Mask from the 2014–15 NHL season is a stunning and rare collectible, known as the “Wild Instincts Part II” edition. Worn while playing for the Minnesota Wild, this mask was custom-designed by world-renowned airbrush artist David Gunnarsson of DaveArt, in collaboration with mask builder Dom Malerba.
It features aggressive wilderness-themed graphics, including a fierce snarling bear and forest elements, echoing the primal spirit of the Wild franchise. Built on a pro-level shell by Malerba, the mask combines elite protection with visually striking aesthetics. The artwork continues DaveArt's trademark "3-D illusion" and narrative storytelling style, with intricate details only visible upon close inspection. This particular mask is photo-matched to game action during the 2014–15 NHL season, verifying its authenticity and ice use. Bäckström, the Wild’s longtime goaltender, wore this mask in what would become his final season in the NHL, adding historical significance. A must-have for serious collectors, this piece is not only game-worn and certified but also a pinnacle example of goalie mask art during the 2010s.
